Entanet & 21CN

How is Entanet involved?

Entanet is a pioneer of 21CN, having been proactively involved in its development, and particularly influential in representing the channel by helping shape the network, the characteristics of the service offerings; and as well as the methodology applied to migrating customers from 20C to 21C.

Entanet’s strategy has focused significantly on investment in its own network, building it out to the 20 core nodes in order to take WBC (Wholesale Broadband Connect). WBC is a national broadband aggregation and transport service that enables Entanet to connect customers to its own core network and service platform. Initially Entanet is using Gigabit Multi-Service Interconnect Links (MSILs) at each of the 20 WBC nodes to take delivery of individual connections onto its own network. As capacity requirements increase these can be upgraded to 10Gbps connections. Entanet also expanded its network to cover 10 additional IPStream Connect nodes in order to become the first non-BT provider to utilise WBC consuming IPStream Connect and deliver all of its broadband connections (20C and 21C) via a 21C infrastructure.

Due to its position as the first non-BT company to have taken WBC consuming IPStream Connect, Entanet has been able to develop a number of competitive wholesale and resale 21CN based services. Resale partners enjoy the convenience of ready-made broadband packages with unified features and pricing, fully supported by Entanet’s Customer Service and Technical Support teams while allowing the partners to set their own retail price. Alternatively, EWCS (Entanet Wholesale Carrier Services) broadband provides ISPs looking to implement a managed or unmanaged wholesale 21CN service with a flexible solution. With EWCS broadband wholesale partners can deliver own branded ADSL and ADSL2+ services to their customers using L2TP technology. Wholesale Partners can also benefit from the provision of Ethernet connectivity services at highly competitive prices due to Entanet’s extensive network coverage.

Going forward

Whilst the main focus has been to provide ADSL and ADSL2+ over 21CN infrastructure, other services are on the horizon. Entanet has been involved in the customer trials of FTTC (Fibre-to-the-Cabinet) which delivers download speeds of up to 40Mbps and is currently developing its own FTTC-based services. Entanet is also involved in trials of Annex M which enables end users to trade some of their download speed on WBC for more upload speed; as well as trials of FTTP (Fibre-to-the-Premises) which provides download speed of up to 100Mbps.
